What is neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity celebrates the natural variation in neurotypes—ways human brains think, learn, and experience the world.
Neurotypes like ADHD, autism, dyslexia, giftedness, learning differences, and heightened sensitivity (HSP) aren’t deficits but unique and valuable expressions of humanity.
Neurodiverse minds are wired for creativity, innovation, and deep insight. While these traits can come with challenges (such as managing overwhelm or navigating environments designed for more typical ways of thinking) they also hold remarkable strengths, from problem-solving to empathy to unique pattern recognition.
What is neurodiversity-affirming therapy?
Whether you’re reshaping your understanding of yourself, your partner, or your child, neurodiversity-affirming therapy provides a strengths-based framework and an opportunity to create a life that truly fits you.
How is this approach different?
The idea is to treat distress, not difference. This perspective shifts the focus from "fixing" individuals to embracing your strengths and creating environments that support your needs.
In our work together, you’ll notice themes of:
Empowerment
Accommodating sensory sensitivities
Honoring lived experience
Redefining identity
Challenging norms
Why do you use this approach?
As a neurodivergent provider (I was diagnosed with ADHD in my 40s) I understand that neurodiversity is…well…diverse! Support needs look a little different for everyone—and women and girls especially may not see themselves represented in the traditional medical framework.
For me, ADHD didn’t show up in a way I expected or recognized. My diagnosis was revelatory for me, and shapes the way I support clients of all ages in my practice, whether you have a formal diagnosis or not. I honor everyone’s lived experience and individual needs, working collaboratively and responsively to make sure your family gets what you need from therapy.
How do you support neurodivergent families?
Parenting a neurodivergent child is a journey filled with questions (and often worries) about how best to support your child’s unique needs. Neurodiversity-affirming therapy is a partnership—a space to grow alongside your child, to find your voice as their advocate, and to build a family life rooted in acceptance, hope, and strength.
Alongside empathy and understanding, I offer evidence-based resources, practical tools, and coaching strategies that will help bring harmony to your home.
You focus on strengths, but does this approach also address the challenges of neurodiversity?
Absolutely! Affirming and honoring the neurodivergent experience does not mean ignoring the challenges—and navigating a neurotypical world often requires a trusty set of tools.
I help clients of all ages:
Address the building blocks of Executive Functioning
Understand sensory preferences and triggers
Strengthen emotion regulation skills
Build comfort around self-advocacy
Identify and cope with social stressors
Implement accommodations
Cultivate self-compassion
